Over thirty-five years ago the Cathedral Clothing Center began its outreach ministry to the Heartside neighborhood. Known then as the Emmaus Center, the clothing ministry was began by the late Sister Helen LaValley, OP., a long-time Cathedral member. Parishioners were asked to donate their clean, gently-used clothes for all ages. Each week volunteers sorted and mended clothing items and distributed them from the furnace room in the basement of the Cathedral.
Today, the ministry functions out of the former Guadalupe Chapel just North of the Cathedral off Division Avenue. Twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30-11:30am, September through June) volunteers distribute clothing and personal care items to on average 60 individuals in need.
The Cathedral supports the ministry through our Samaritan collection, received on the fourth Sunday of each month, and through the generous donations of items from parishioners and community members.
Items you can donate:
gently used clothing
bed and bath linens
shoes, gloves, scarves
new packages of socks/underwear
personal care items (soap, deoderant, toothpaste, etc.)
All donations can be brought to the Cathedral office during regular business hours or dropped off in the foyer when you attend Mass.
